About
the Friends of Kilminorth Woods
|
| The Friends of
Kilminorth Woods was formed and constituted in 2006 as a result of the
'Wildspace!' project. This was a joint initiative with the then owners, Caradon
District Council (now Cornwall Council), English Nature (now Natural England)
and Groundwork UK. |
| |
| The Friends objectives
are: |
- to promote, for the benefit
of the public, the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and
natural environment of Kilminorth Woods Local Nature Reserve
- to advance the education of
the public in relation to the natural environment and its conservation and
- to advance the use of
Kilminorth Woods Local Nature Reserve for educational and recreational purposes
appropriate to a Local Nature Reserve.

To do this the group
runs a year round programme of
events including
wildlife monitoring, guided walks, school and youth group visits, trips and
talks. The variety of activities means there is something for
everyone!
We now
have resident and visitors as full members.
Lansallos Parish Council is a corporate member. We have
a Facebook page and you can also follow us on twitter @kilminorthwoods.
We have members
with expertise in many relevant areas, including birds, large mammals, the
estuary, ferns, wildlife filming, marine life, small mammals, tourism, youth
activities, guided walks and more. |
| |
| The Friends of
Kilminorth Woods has teamed up with the BBC's 'Breathing Places' Campaign in
the South West to encourage people to get outside to discover more about
wildlife and do one thing for nature. The Friends have featured on the BBC's
Nature of Britain and BBC South West's Inside Out South West
programmes. |
| |
| We are also pleased to
have had the active support of the Spar shops and TocH in Looe, the Cornwall
Wildlife Trust, the Woodland Trust, the Looe Voluntary Marine Conservation Area
and Cornwall Council. See the
links page
for more information. |
